Many artists work with small home studios which they set up by themselves. Setting up a home recording studio is cheaper than you can imagine. In South African there are many music stores which offer excellent equipment you can use to setup your home studio.
A home studio does not require a lot of hardware, The essentials are a Desktop Computer or Laptop. Condenser Microphones, Audio Interface, Monitor Speakers, Headphones, Sound Reflection and Studio cables.  
Desktop Computer or Laptop 

Any modern computer will do the job. Basic requirements are.  
Pc Ram 2gigs and more 
80 gigs Disk Space and more 
USB Ports / Audio Jack Ports 
A Working Operating System 
A working Music Production Software 
Condenser Microphones
 

The term condenser is actually obsolete but has stuck as the name for this type of microphone, which uses a capacitor to convert acoustical energy into electrical energy. Condenser microphones require power from a battery or external source. The resulting audio signal is stronger signal than that from a dynamic.

Audio Interface
 
An audio interface is a piece of hardware that expands and improves the sonic capabilities of a computer. Some audio interfaces give you the ability to connect professional microphones, instruments and other kinds of signals to a computer, and output a variety of signals as well.
Monitor Speakers 

Studio monitors are loudspeakers in speaker enclosures specifically designed for professional audio production applications, such as recording studios, filmmaking, television studios, radio studios and project or home studios, where accurate audio reproduction is crucial. 
 
Headphone 
A device consisting of a pair of earphones joined by a band placed over the head, for listening to audio signals such as music or speech.
